California Pop-Up Book
Published in Hardcover by Universe Books (June, 2003)
Average review score:

The Real California - in Three DimensionsThe book looks like it might just be a decorative coffee table item, but the content belies that impression. The pop-ups are fun and attractive, but the real story is in the choice of objects and the writing. The selections speak to the myth of California that was consciously created by early explorers, developers, and movie moguls but became its own reality as people migrated to the state ready to play the roles the myth-makers created for them. In exposing the history through objects and some remarkable writing by such as Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Carolyn See, Graham Nash, Alice Waters, Terry Gilliam, and Richard Rodriguez, the pre-mythic history and the development of a true California culture emerges...one in which the tinsel is a little tarnished around the edges, but glows as brightly as ever with its own special light.

Celebrities in Los Angeles Cemeteries: A Directory
Published in Paperback by McFarland & Company (May, 2001)
Average review score:

BEST IN CLASS!Having read most of the books published re: celeb grave hunting, I can easily say this is the very best. Mr. Ellenberger has managed to consolidate all the positives contained in the books that have preceded this one, added additional information and new entries, and has come up with the ultimate grave hunting guide for the Los Angeles area. He has clearly researched and verified his information and relied on additional information supplied by various knowledgeable contributors. Information includes dates and locations of birth and death, grave location (cemetery, section and plot numbers), cause of death, and identifiable screen role(s). The only possible shortcomings are lack of cemetery maps and pictures of the deceased, and these are probably due to the high publishing costs associated with these features. The one thing that I really liked was the addition of many fine actors who never attained star status such as Harry Davenport and Sara Allgood. This is absolutely great for all diehard movie fans out there.

Citypack Los Angeles (Citypack)
Published in Paperback by Fodors Travel Pubns (April, 1997)
Average review score:

Concise, accurate, usefulI grew up in Chicago but haven't been back for 20 years. So, when I was assigned to Chicago to open a new business, I bought a few guides, this was one of them. While not intended to be an absolutely complete guidebook (ala the Fodors gold series) it does a good job of listing the top restaurants (by cuisine), top hotels (by price) top entertainment spots (by type) and top 25 sights to see. I especially liked the brevity of this feature because it helped me focus on the most important museums , entertainment and other features of the city. Every listing has a location, nearest mass transit stop, and map coordinates that match the city map that is included with the package. If you're looking for a simple but very useful guide, this is the one.

A Community of Angels: Los Angeles
Published in Paperback by Angel City Pr (June, 2001)
Average review score:

A Community of AngelsWhat a thoughtful book. Great photographs, writing, and design. I was very moved by the way the book portrayed the thoughts and experiences of the artists who worked on the project. The world needs more events like this, projects that bring out the best in us all. Hats off to Los Angeles, the developers of the project, the artists, the authors, and to the angels

Como trabajar con los angeles
Published in Paperback by Alamah (15 April, 2000)
Average review score:

Angel guide for dummies.I have read many books on this subject. This is the first book I have been excited about. It is concise and simple. The prayers are beautiful and short. With a bussy schedule, this book gave me the tools I needed to go on. I am truly hopeful about the future. I now feel the presence of these heavenly companions. I hope you do too. My friends know that reading is not one of my hobbies, but since I was so enthusiastic about this one they got online to buy it.

Con Artist: Paul Conrad-30 Years With the Los Angeles Times
Published in Hardcover by Los Angeles Times (July, 1993)
Average review score:

I don't understandI would think that an illustrator of children's books who is advertising his services would include at least one sample of his work in a web page like this. I'm an author looking for an illustator, but I cannot afford the time or money to buy books just to see whether I like the artwork.

Copp for Hire
Published in Hardcover by Donald I Fine (September, 1987)
Average review score:

This book has love, murder enfolded in it's deepest layers. This book, like most of Don Pendleton's best work, starts out with action and ends with action. Bullets destroy bodies and buildings, and women destroy relationships and men. The main character is a detective who decides to take the case of a young lady who is murdered upon her departure. It leads him through love, life, and death as he attempts to figure out who is killing young ladies. This book is very enjoyable and extremely thrill-seeking

Crossing over: An Oral History of Refugees from Hitler's Reich (Twayne's Oral History Series, No 21)
Published in Hardcover by Twayne Pub (May, 1996)
Average review score:

Each person's story is like watching a short movie. These stories give a glimpse of Jewish Holocaust victims who were fortunate enough to escape and what became of them. The oral histories in this book are not at all dull, but almost like watching a short movie for each one because there is so much drama in what they went through. All eventually came to Los Angeles which gives the reader a glimpse of what it was like to be an immigrant in L.A. during World War II.
